East London Depot, South Africa
East London Tank Refurbishment & Geodesic Dome.
Brief
The client needed a full lifecycle intervention on a depot tank approaching its API653 inspection interval, plus an upgrade of the depot's pump-bay protection. The work split into three parts. We carried out API653 repairs to the tank, installed a geodesic dome in place of an aged fixed roof, and built a new sprinkler system on a steel structure over the pump bay.
Scope
We executed a full API653 repair plan and some upgrades, repairing floor and shell to bring measured thickness back above the calculated minimum. We renewed the internal lining and external coating system in line with manufacturer specifications.
The upgrades included a geodesic dome installation. The dome replaces the legacy roof structure with a maintenance-light, vapour-tight system that improves product containment and inspection access.
We fabricated a frame over the depot pump bay to carry the new fire-water sprinkler system, coated for the coastal environment to ISO 12944 C5-M.
Outcome
Tank returned to service within the planned shutdown window. Inspection pack handed over with a full audit trail. Pump-bay fire protection commissioned and witness-tested. Coating warranties registered with the manufacturer.
